Wetaskiwin RCMP investigate fatal collision

One fatality in a serious collision on Highway 2A on June 18, 2021.

At approximately 9 a.m. on Friday June 18, 2021 Wetaskiwin RCMP received a 911 call of a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 2A near Township road 472 just outside of Wetaskiwin, Alta.

Wetaskiwin RMCP attended the scene and further investigation indicated a car was travelling northbound in an erratic manner and went into the lane of oncoming traffic. The vehicle collided with a gravel truck heading southbound on Highway 2A.

Emergency medical services and fire services also attended the scene.

The 41-year-old male driver and lone occupant of the car from Wetaskiwin was pronounced dead at the scene. RCMP say the name of the deceased will not be released.

The driver and lone occupant of the gravel truck was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Wetaskiwin RCMP are investigating the cause of this fatality.
