The Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) completed a multi-day drug trafficking investigation on Dec. 10 that led to multiple charges against a Wetaskiwin resident allegedly involved in illegal drug activity.
Over the course of several days, Wetaskiwin RCMP in coordination with other RCMP disciplines, conducted a comprehensive surveillance effort in Wetaskiwin targeting suspected drug activity, according to a release.
The operation led to an arrest of 44-year-old Wetaskiwin resident Michael Trottier. After allegedly resisting arrest, he was taken into custody. The operation led to the RCMP executing a search warrant of Trottier’s vehicle and residence. The warrant resulted in the seizure of:
- 36 grams of cocaine
- 10 grams of crystal Meth
- two firearms
- drug paraphernalia
- $2,200 in cash.
Trottier is facing charges of:
- possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking (x 2)
- possession of a weapon (x 2)
- assault on police officer (x 2)
- assault on police officer with a weapon (x 2)
- possession of stolen property.

Trottier remains in custody and will appear in Wetaskiwin Court on Dec. 12.
