Wetaskiwin RCMP respond to fatal collision between train and SUV

One adult was pronounced deceased on scene; seriously injured child taken to hospital via EMS.

Wetaskiwin RCMP responded to a fatal collision between a train and an SUV at approximately 3:50 p.m. on July 11, 2021.

The collision took place at Highway 2A and Township Road 470.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the SUV was travelling westbound on Township Road 470 when a collision occurred with a moving northbound train at a crossing.

The adult female driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. A child in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken via EMS to an Edmonton Hospital.

Wetaskiwin RCMP and CP police continue to investigate this collision.

RCMP say the name of the deceased will not be released.
