A familiar sight during the holiday season is the Salvation Army's red donation kettle outside of retail stores as shoppers rush about to complete their gift list.

The annual campaign funds their programs and services for those in need in the community and organizers are looking for volunteers in Wetaskiwin and surrounding communities.

"Whether you can spare a few hours or a whole day, every bit helps," said Salvation Army kettle coordinator Amanda Billings.

Volunteers to collect donations are needed at various locations in Wetaskiwin, Leduc and Camrose from Nov. 23 to Dec. 23, Monday to Saturday. Kettle donations are taken from noon to 6 p.m.

Volunteer drivers are also needed to transport funds at the end of collection times from collection locations to the Wetaskiwin Salvation Army location (5102 50 Ave.).

"Our goal is to not only gather funds but also to foster a spirit of giving and community engagement during this festive season," said Billings.

Kettles will be located at the No Frills, Safeway and Walmart in Wetaskiwin throughout the campaign.
