With the 2025 general municipal election scheduled for Monday, Oct. 20, the City of Wetaskiwin wants residents to ensure they're registered to vote — in fact, you can check, update your registration, or register for the first time in less than five minutes!
Voters will select a mayor and six councillors when they head to the polls this fall, as well as trustees for the Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools Division and St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Separate School Division.
But the first step to participating in this year's election is to ensure you're registered to vote.
To be eligible to vote in the municipal election, you must be at least 18 years old and a Canadian citizen, and must live in Alberta, with your residence located in the local jurisdiction on election day.
Registering to vote is easy and takes less than five minutes!
Eligible Albertans can register online to vote in both municipal and provincial elections — simply visit voterlink.ab.ca.
Here, you can register to vote for the first time, update your existing voter registration information, or check if you're registered to vote — all you need is a valid Alberta driver's licence or Alberta Identification Card for each individual you wish to register or update.
Alternatively, voters can register by emailing info@elections.ab.ca or by calling 780-427-7191 (call toll-free at 310-0000, then dialing 780-427-7191).
Note that if you are not registered to vote through Voterslink by Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2025, you'll have to fill out a voter registration form at your voting location.
What happens on voting day?
The voting location for all Wetaskiwin residents will be the Co-op Place Rec Hall, at 4519 50 Avenue, with voting open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. However if you're in the queue at 8 p.m., you will still be allowed to cast your vote.
For those unable to vote on general election day, or who wish to cast their ballot ahead, four advance poll days are also scheduled.
