The Civic Centre: Twin Arenas & Drill Hall is now Co-op Place, thanks to a 10-year sponsorship by Wetaskiwin Co-op.

Wetaskiwin’s Civic Centre boasted a new name in time for the recent Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts, and more opportunities await local businesses wanting to show their local pride.

The Civic Centre: Twin Arenas & Drill Hall is now Co-op Place, joining facilities like Manluk Place in the City of Wetaskiwin’s partnered facilities. Following unanimous council support Jan. 16, the new name and signage were unveiled during a ribbon cutting ceremony Jan. 17.

The sponsorship agreement sets the name in place for 10 years, giving the Co-op prominent placement with the city and a variety of promotional opportunities.

Within the facility itself, a variety of other naming opportunities remain, including the Drill Hall (minimum $10,000/year), Arena 1 (minimum $10,000/year), Arena 2 (minimum $7,500/year) and dressing rooms (minimum $2,500/year each). All sponsorships are set for 10 years and are open to any individual, business, organization and non-for-profit association in good standing.

“Co-op Place will continue to be where our kids learn to skate and play hockey, where they chase the dream of playing in the NHL or represent Canada in Olympic figure skating, and our community comes together to host tournaments and events of all sizes,” says Mayor Tyler Gandam. “Wetaskiwin is fortunate to have businesses like Wetaskiwin Co-op who see the value in investing locally and supporting the community.”

This latest sponsorship is part of a long history of community support from Wetaskiwin Co-op, formed in 1917 with a mission to fulfill its customers’ needs with a wide range of product, services and growing solutions in the community it serves.

In addition to sponsoring local groups and events, Co-op has partnered with the City for the Co-op Competition Pool and the Co-op Agro Centre Room, both located in the Manluk Centre: Wetaskiwin Regional Aquatics and Fitness.

“Our recreation spaces in Wetaskiwin are essential to the strength, diversity and vitality of our community,” says Allan Halter, Co-op General Manager. “This partnership with the City of Wetaskiwin will continue to provide residents of Wetaskiwin and surrounding areas a multi-use facility where they can gather and share enriching social, artistic, sporting and cultural experiences. The Wetaskiwin Co-op is a proud and committed community supporter.”
