If you love the outdoors – especially if your adventures involve an engine – you likely know Wetaskiwin Motorsports. After all, they’ve been satisfying the city’s thirst for outdoor recreation since the 1970s!

At the helm today is owner and manager Colten Kimmy. As we mark Small Business Week in Wetaskiwin, Kimmy highlights the business’s long local history – reaching back decades to the founder’s garage, where he’d sell motorcycles to passionate riders.

Backed by an enthusiastic local outdoor recreation community, the business soon expanded, getting its own brick-and-mortar location and a line-up that included much more than motorcycles.

Today, Wetaskiwin Motorsports is a go-to destination for everything from motorbikes and snowmobiles to quads and personal watercraft, selling Can-Am, Ski-Doo, Sea-Doo and Honda. You’ll also find Honda power equipment for home or cabin, including zero-turn mowers for larger properties. A second location – Camrose Motorsports – was also added to serve those a little farther east.

“We deliver a premier service,” Kimmy says, explaining the business’s continued growth and ongoing support from local residents. “Most of our customers are either repeat, or here because we’ve been recommended. And I love serving our customers – everyone is really excited when they’re buying toys.”

Beyond the brand new adventure vehicles at Wetaskiwin Motorsports, you’ll also find a large pre-owned inventory, ideal for those starting out or looking to trade up, alongside a great selection of accessories, safety gear, parts and apparel. And if you don’t see it on the shelf, ask! They can easily bring it in, often within a few days.

With many long-term staff members – about 13 across the two stores – Wetaskiwin Motorsports’ commitment to its local customers reaches beyond the sales floor. You’ll also find experienced, certified service technicians who’ll keep your ride in tip-top condition.

“We have a lot of recognizable, friendly faces,” Kimmy says.

After 20 years in the current building, it is starting to feel a little small, he reflects, especially as he eyes possible expansion into marine recreation. But while the building may feel snug at times, the community is just right.
