Alberta government confirmed a first death in the central zone Sunday.
The government declared 69 cases of COVID-19 Sunday bringing the provincial total to 1,250.
Three Albertans have died since the last report Saturday, bringing the total in the province to 23 deaths. That is a total of 14 deaths in the Calgary zone, four in the Edmonton zone, four in the North zone, and one in the Central zone.
Central zone number of cases is at 67, an increase of one case since Saturday.
That single case increase is in the City of Red Deer. As of Saturday, there were 25 cases in the city, and Sunday, that number was at 26. There are 16 cases in Red Deer east, four in Red Deer south west and six in the city’s north.
The highest number of cases is in Calgary zone at 774. In Edmonton zone that number is at 309, 20 in south zone and 77 in the north zone.
As of Sunday, there are 279 recovered cases in the province.
Of the total cases, 48 people are battling COVID-19 in hospitals, of which 13 have been admitted to intensive care units (ICU).
Strong outbreak measures have been put in place at continuing care facilities. To date, 106 cases have been confirmed at these facilities.
There have been 63,115 people tested for COVID-19 as of Sunday, and a total of 64,806 tests performed by the lab. There have been 698 tests completed in the last 24 hours.
In central Alberta, there are three cases in Lacombe area, eight in Wetaskiwin County, one in Ponoka area, one in Innisfail area, two in Olds area, three in Didsbury area, one in Sundre area and one in Stettler County area.
A total of 919 cases are laboratory confirmed, and 331 are probable cases (symptomatic close contacts of laboratory confirmed cases). Laboratory positivity rates remain consistent at two per cent, the province confirms.
