Joseph Roy Herold, age 29, is currently facing 26 charges including 16 counts of break, enter and theft, two counts of possession of stolen property, six counts of breach of probation, one count of fraudulent use of a credit card and one count of driving while disqualified. Additional charges are pending further investigation in relation to the break and enters. Herold was arrested on December 13, 2010 and remains in custody after being denied bail on January 18, 2011.
BACKGROUND:
Between August, 2009 and April, 2010, a string of residential break and enters were committed throughout rural areas in Alberta and Saskatchewan. These crimes occurred in 23 RCMP detachment areas in Alberta and 2 detachment areas in Saskatchewan involving the victimization of 35 separate rural communities. A lengthy investigation was conducted by members of "K" Division's Serious Crimes Branch, with the assistance of the Alberta Sheriffs and various detachment members.
