County of Wetaskiwin also discusses more dates for public engagement

The County of Wetaskiwin will invite ratepayers to join them for an open house, free barbeque and information session May 3.

At their regular meeting Jan. 8 councilors discussed the annual county open house, which usually features equipment displays and information displays plus a free barbeque.

The item was presented to councilors by communications officer Sharon Radis.

“Each year the County of Wetaskiwin hosts an open house at the beginning of May,” stated Radis in her memo. “Possible dates to host the May open house are Wednesday May 1, Friday May 3 or Wednesday May 8.

“An early May date works best as the summer staff commence work on May 1st and they assist with the set-up and clean-up for the open house. In 2018 the open house was held Fri., May 4 and in 2017 the open house was held Wednesday, May 10.

“The open house is held in the shop from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a barbeque and displays. Approximately 400 guests attend the open house event.

“A second open house is held in Buck Lake in conjunction with the tax collection in mid-August for west end residents. Approximately 200 guests attend the open house event.

“For 2019, council has also approved two citizen engagement sessions to be held February 27 at the Winfield Agriplex Hall and February 28 at the Millet Agriplex Hall,” noted Radis. Citizen engagement sessions are a chance for taxpayers to meet councilors and staff and ask questions.

Councilors unanimously agreed to hold the open house on Friday, May 3.
