Jesse James Leckner, 31, of no fixed address, was charged with assault while choking a person, assault with a weapon, and two counts of failing to comply with conditions of release, after an incident in Ponoka on March 10.

The victim told police she had been choked and threatened with a knife.

Leckner was to enter his election and plea at Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on March 24, but the hearing was adjourned. His next court appearance has been set for April 1, to speak to the Ponoka Provincial Court.

Attempted murder charges

The court cases of three suspects are moving forward after an alleged attempted murder in Maskwacis back in February.

Maskwacis RCMP assisted EMS with a male suffering from injuries sustained from a serious assault on Feb. 24.

Police learned that the victim was at a residence known to him when he was attacked and held against his will.

RCMP identified three males they allege were responsible for the attack: Conner Saddleback, 27, from Montana First Nation and Just Simon, 33, and Austin Bull, 31, of Samson Cree Nation. All three were charged with attempted murder, forcible confinement and uttering threats.

Bull had his first court date on March 22. His next appearance is set for April 12 at Wetaskiwin Provincial Court, where he is expected to enter an election and plea.

Saddleback and Simon are scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on March 31.
