Drug suspect allegedly rams car into Leduc police vehicles

Leduc, Alberta - On February 15, 2018 Leduc RCMP’s Drug Unit charged a male after he rammed police vehicles while attempting to flee police.

Members of the Leduc RCMP’s Drug Unit were conducting an operation targeted at drug trafficking. While members were attempting to arrest a male the male allegedly attempted to escape police by ramming his vehicle through police cars. Although his actions allegedly caused extensive damage to multiple police vehicles, one suspect was quickly taken into custody. No officers were injured.

Incidental to arrest RCMP located and seized a quantity of cocaine and over $1,500 in cash in the accused possession.

Daniel NGUYEN, a 27 year old from Edmonton, Alberta has been charged with:

• Trafficking cocaine

• Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking

• Possession of property obtained by crime

• Resisting arrest

• Operating a motor vehicle while being pursued by police

• Dangerous driving

He has since been released from custody by a Justice of the Peace on bail and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Leduc on March 15, 2018 at 0930am.

“This situation highlights the risk our officers put themselves in on a daily basis. It is no secret that the drug trade goes hand in hand with organized crime and violence” says Corporal Lyle Rattray of the Leduc RCMP. “Our drug unit in Leduc is tasked with interrupting the activities of offenders and making crime reduction in the Community of Leduc a priority.”
