Due to provisions set by the City of Wetaskiwin and County of Wetaskiwin Inter-municipality Development Plan approximately 160 acres of county land is being annexed by the city.

Mumeco Properties Ltd. is requesting the undeveloped property be annexed into the City of Wetaskiwin.

In February of 2016 an area structure plan for the land was approved by the county and supported by the city.

“The area structure plan identified the property be fully serviced with water and wastewater being provided by the City of Wetaskiwin,” said City of Wetaskiwin department manager Lisa Novotny.

The City and County of Wetaskiwin Inter-municipal Development Plan states, “Land should remain in whichever municipality is best able to provide services to it and its owners.”

The matter received two written submissions, one from the County of Wetaskiwin and the other from Alberta Transportation; both are in support with no objections.

The next step is approval from the Municipal Government Board in order for the annexation process to move forward.
