Lakedell 4-H Beef Club Report

MacKenzie Denschikoff elected as president of club

As we start to have some beautiful fall weather so our local farmers may get into the fields to harvest, this too has brought on the start of another busy and exciting 4-H year.

We held our first 4-H meeting on September 11, 2018 at Lakedell Hall with many returning faces and lots of new excited faces. We had our club elections with MacKenzie Denschikoff as president, vice-president is Mercedes Giesbrecht, secretary is Jackie Schmidt, club reporters are Adrianne and Jackson Denschikoff, district council reps are Nicole Groeneveld, MacKenzie Denschikoff and Jackie Schmidt, social convenors are Tantyn and Nash Monea, Chas Anderson, and Garett Schmidt, and finally our historians are Katy Laing, Raeanna Schmidt, Malaya Stone and Nicole Groeneveld.

We would like to thank all of our parent volunteers and welcome as general leader Kyley Denschikoff, assistant leaders as Corei Schmidt and Holly Johanson and Cleaver leaders Abby and Tony Schmidt.

Lakedell 4-H Beef Club has started up for another busy but fun year with us weighing in on September 28, 2018 with 22 steers and we are looking at having 18 heifer projects and up to 20 cow/calf projects this year. Our club would like to thank Parkview Farms for again hosting our weigh in and we would also like to give a huge thanks to Jodi Hampton of Hampton Simmentals of Falun, Alberta for generously donating this year’s club calf.

We had our second meeting on October 9, 2018 and would like to thank Brian Vercaigne from BJV Feed Management in Lacombe for coming out and giving a very informative talk on feeding our steers, heifers and cow/calf projects. The members all learned a great deal and very much enjoyed his presentation.

Our first fundraising activity will be October 19, 2018 where we will be catering the Annual Falun Seniors Supper. The kids always enjoy this evening and look forward to it every year.

As we all are excited for what this year will bring we again would love to thank all of our many generous buyers and sponsors from last year and look forward to seeing you again at our clubs Annual Show and Sale held this year April 27, 2019 at the Lakedell Agricultural Society Arena and Hall.
