Everyone in our club is sure hoping that all of our community members are able to keep warm during this long spell of cold weather. All of our calves are eating well but we are all hoping that we will see some sun and warmth soon so we can get back to getting our 4-H calves worked. We have had a couple of very busy months lately but we have all enjoyed the time and learning we have shared as a club.
We held our annual Roast Beef Supper and Pie Auction on January 19, 2019 and we are beyond appreciative of the community support we received. We had a full house that got to enjoy an always amazing meal prepared by Greta Schmidt and the entertainment provided by Sharp Nine was beyond superb. We were so happy to have this talented group of musicians out from Wetaskiwin Composite Band Program and not only our club but community was blown away by the amazing talent we have locally. The ever famous pie auction was again a huge success and we can’t thank enough all the local people and businesses that again supported us by buying a pie. Again we need to thank Russ Finley for auctioning our pies and of course providing the never ending entertainment as he does. Finally we would like to thank Hoogland Farms for donating the potatoes for our supper. The success of this evening is because of all the amazing people that come out and support us, thank you so much!
We rolled right into finishing off our busy weekend with holding our club’s public speaking on the following Sunday January 21, 2019 at Lakedell Hall. All of our members did such a wonderful job presenting and we had an afternoon full of learning, laughing and being inspired. We would like to thank our clubs judges for coming out and volunteering their time, Martha Krause, Reg Schmidt, Tim Belec, Nicole Heilman, Monique Dancause and Amy Belec. Also we need to thank our Timer/Teller Zoe Kilthau, our Impromptu Table Carol Kakoschke and of course our fabulous Mistress of Ceremonies Jackie Schmidt. Congratulations to all of our members for doing such a great job, but we would like to recognize our winners: Junior 1st was Milaya Stone, 2nd was Chas Anderson and 3rd was Adrianne Denschikoff, Intermediate 1st was Nicole Groeneveld, 2nd was Hulaina Anderson and 3rd was J.R. Good, and rounding out the field was Seniors with 1st Mercedes Geisbrecht, 2nd was MacKenzie Denschikoff and 3rd was Austin Schmidt.
We are excited about the upcoming months with us having our Mini Show on March 10th at Lakedell Arena and of course come on down to the Lakedell Ag Society’s Annual Bullarama on March 16, 2019 to see some great action and eat some great food as our club again helps out in the kitchen and runs the concession.
Again we want to invite everyone out to join us to celebrate our successes at our show and sale held on April 27, 2019 at the Lakedell Ag Society Hall and Arena. We are all getting excited about this big day and are looking forward to sharing it with all of our community members. We are also excited to announce that this year we have chosen our Club Calf proceeds to be donated to the Alberta 4-H Foundation to purchase much needed 98 new mattresses for the Alberta 4-H Centre that will not only benefit our members but benefit all members from our district, region and provincially that come to camp at Battle Lake.
