Lakedell 4-H Beef kids enjoy calf tour January 5

Lakedell 4-H Beef January report

All of our members hope everyone had a joyous holiday season and that the New Year brings all of our community members many blessings and joy! Since our last news article we have been a busy club that is moving into an even busier New Year. In November we had members attend the District Executive Workshop at Falun Hall, others attend the Regional Funday at Lakedell Ag Events Centre and then we had some members attend the West Central Regional Judging Competition held at the Spurs West Event Centre at Rocky Mountain House. Our members did well representing our club and all had a great day of learning and competing. Congratulations to MacKenzie, Jackson and Adrianne Denschikoff; Austin Schmidt, Nashton Monea, Reese Stone, and Nicole Groeneveld for going and representing our club.

Moving into the New Year we held our club calf tour January 5, 2019, where we saw some really great steers, heifers and cow/calf pairs. Our club show will be super exciting this year with the calibre of livestock that each member will be exhibiting. All of the steers are right on track for our April 27, 2019 Achievement Day and there will be some really great competition between the many good quality steers that were seen on tour day. Our female show is also shaping up to be one of the strongest Lakedell has seen in a while! We would like to thank Mike and Aggie Schmidt for hosting our club at their beautiful home after tour for a quick lunch and visit.

January is super busy for us with our Annual Roast Beef Supper and Pie Auction being held January 19, 2019 at Lakedell Ag Hall with entertainment this year being provided by the #Nine. Then we will take a day off and roll right into our Public Speaking Competition being held on Sunday January 21, 2019 also held at Lakedell Ag Hall. We need to thank Holly Johanson and Krista Anderson for giving us a wonderful public speaking workshop at our last meeting to help kick off our success at our public speaking competition. As the New Year starts our members are starting to get excited about the Show and Sale coming quick on April 27, 2019 and we again want to invite everyone to come out and join us on our Achievement Day and Sale to help us celebrate our successes.
