Leduc County under a fire ban
All areas of Leduc County are under a fire ban, effective April 1 at 10 a.m. until further notice, due to extremely dry conditions, forecasted temperatures and windy conditions.
"Leduc County Fire Services has issued a fire ban in an effort to keep the county safe from fire,” says Brad Gurmin, Fire Marshal. “With the cooperation of all residents and visitors, we can minimize the fire risk in the county.”
While under a fire ban, Leduc County’s fire guardians are prohibited from issuing fire permits, all fire permits previously issued are suspended and all outdoor fires presently burning must be extinguished immediately.
The fire ban prohibits open fires, campfires, fires used for cooking or warmth, burning barrels and the discharge of fireworks.
The fire ban does not apply to fires contained in cooking and heating appliances which are fueled by liquid fuel.
Any individual responsible for setting a fire prohibited under the ban will be responsible for the costs of extinguishing the fire, pursuant to Leduc County bylaws, and may be charged under the Forest and Prairie Protection Act.
