Leduc RCMP arrest male for flight from police and multiple other warrants

Suspect involved in single vehicle collision before stealing bystander’s vehicle.

Leduc RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Dec. 9, 2020 involving a truck and a light pole on Highway 39 by Township Road 265.

Leduc RCMP members were updated when driving to the scene of the accident that the male involved in the collision had stolen the vehicle of a male who had stopped to offer assistance when he saw the collision.

The male who had his vehicle stolen was not injured.

RCMP identified the male driver who stole the bystander’s vehicle and found the stolen vehicle during a patrol of the area at Township Road 482 and Range Road 273. Members attempted to get the driver to surrender to police but he would not.

RCMP engaged in a pursuit of the male in the stolen vehicle and ended up using a tire deflation device. The male then surrendered to the police.

No RCMP members were injured and the male driver of the stolen vehicle suffered minor injuries.

At the time of this incident, Levi Hopkins, 38, of Edmonton was wanted on several arrest warrants. Hopkins is facing further criminal charges as a result of this incident and is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
