The Leduc Rural Crime Watch Association and the Leduc RCMP are set to co-host a second event installing free anti-theft licence plate screws in the community.
A successful first event was held on Aug. 19 which had 36 people come out with their vehicles to have their regular licence plate screws replaced with the anti-theft ones.
With the success of the first event, the Leduc Rural Crime Watch Association and the Leduc RCMP detachment have decided to partner again to host a second event set for Sept. 16 from 1-3 p.m.
The event will be held in the west parking lot of the Leduc RCMP detachment located at 4119 50 St, in Leduc.
“We’re pleased with the number of people that came to support this crime prevention initiative and the requests we’ve had to host a second event,” said Constable Cheri-Lee Smith, Leduc RCMP Community Policing Officer.
“The installation of the anti-theft licence plate screw only takes minutes and will help prevent thieves from stealing and using your plate on another vehicle.”
The Leduc Rural Crime Watch Association acts as the “Eyes and Ears of Rural Alberta,” reporting suspicious activity in the region to the RCMP.
“We, as a grassroots organization, are honoured to be partnering with the RCMP on this valuable crime prevention project. We welcome all members and non-members, urban and rural, to participate,” notes the organization in the media release announcing the event.
