UPDATE: Puppies rescued at structure fire in Lacombe

The Bentley Fire Department assisted Lacombe in a structure fire where crews saved some puppies

The Lacombe Fire Department and the Bentley Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire at 4:30 a.m. om May 17th near Township Road 412 and Range Road 270.

Upon arrival, fire crews realized that both a mobile home and a small single-family home were engulfed in the flames

“There were two occupants in the mobile home at the time of the fire,” Lacombe Deputy Fire Chief Eric Graham said. “They were treated for smoke inhalation and transferred to hospital.

“They did manage to get out, which is great.”

After the fire was managed, emergency response crews began rescuing the several animals on the scene.

“There were several animals including some dogs that were on the property, as well as some horses,” Graham said. “The horses had made their way to fairly distant location on the property, which was still penned. They were in no way in harms way of the fire.

“I believe all the dogs were recovered and they were all outside in a larger fenced area. Our thoughts are they made their way to the safest spot on the property.”

The property owner, who was on scene, helped fire crews ensure all the animals were accounted for.

According to Graham, the fire is still under investigation at this time.

“From start to finish, which involves coming back to the station and putting everything back in place – it was approximately eight hours,” Graham said. “Those types of fires consume quite a bit of time in our day.”

Graham also thanked the Bentley Fire Department for their assistance on this call.

“We would have had three engines and two rescues along with numerous support vehicles on the scene,” he added.

More information will be provided as the investigation continues.
