On Jan. 19, 2022, Ponoka RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of a serious assault on 47 St. in Ponoka. Upon arrival, RCMP spoke to the 41-year-old victim who had significant trauma to her face and body.

As a result of the initial investigation, RCMP arrested four individuals, all of whom were known to the victim.

Additionally, Zared Buffalo was charged with failure to comply with a release order.

All have been released with conditions and are scheduled to appear at Ponoka Provincial Court on Feb. 11, 2022.

“In spite of this vicious assault, persons crimes are down 15 per cent in Ponoka over the last year,” said Staff Sgt. Chris Smiley of the Ponoka RCMP.

“In instances where individuals are released with conditions pending their court appearance, our members will continue to robustly monitor the accused to promote compliance with those conditions and to reduce crime.”
