Preliminary hearing set for Wetaskiwin man charged with attempted murder for Ponoka shooting

2 suspects were arrested in Banff several days after downtown shooting

The preliminary hearing has been set for a Wetaskiwin man and another suspect charged with attempted murder for a shooting in downtown Ponoka last fall.

Anthony Kelsey Lee Omeasoo, 29, a resident of Wetaskiwin, and Eldon James Saddleback Junior, 34, stand accused.

In the early hours on Sept. 21, 2022, Ponoka RCMP received reports of a shooting near the Leland Hotel.

A victim with what appeared to be multiple gun shot wounds was identified and taken to hospital by STARS in stable condition.

Saddleback and Omeasoo were apprehended in Banff National Park a few days later on Sept. 26.

After being adjourned several times since January, 2023, a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for March 5, 2024, at the Ponoka Court of Justice.
