On April 11th, 2011 in the summer Village of Sandholm Beach a 3 story cabin was destroyed by fire.  Evidence gathered at the scene and witness accounts point to arson as the cause of the fire.  A witness observed an 04-06 silver Pontiac Grand Am leaving the scene being driven by a lone male.  A composite drawing was created based on the witness observation.

On May 4th, 2011, RCMP members from Thorsby Detachment executed a search warrant at a residence in Thorsby.  Inside, members located a small cannabis marihuana grow operation as well as an amount of packaged cannabis marihuana.  Members were assisted by the RCMP/EPS Integrated Drug Unit Green Team in dismantling the operation and seized 31 cannabis marihuana plants in various stages of growth with an estimated street value of approximately $31000.  Also seized was approximately $2000 worth of equipment and approximately 944 grams of pre packaged cannabis marihuana.

One male is facing several charges including two counts of Production of a Controlled Substance and one count of Possession of a Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, all three counts are under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. 

Wetaskiwin RCMP are warning the public of yet another potential email scam. Person(s) have been receiving emails from who they believe to be Revenue Canada, stating that their taxes have been recalculated and they are owed money.  There is a link on the attached email that directs them to enter personal and banking information for direct deposit.

Revenue Canada is aware of this and there is information on their web site at www.cra-arc.gc.ca.  You can also visit Phone busters at www.phonebusters.com or call them at 1-888-495-8501 to report any type of phone, mail or email fraud.
