Residential curbside waste collection throughout the City will be provided by C&S Disposal Inc. beginning Sept. 1.

The current process for waste collection will remain the same, including weekly collection on one’s regularly scheduled pickup day and reporting any concerns using the Citizen Reporting Tool or by calling 780-361-4436.

The City’s contract with C&S Disposal Inc. also includes providing both curbside organics and recycling collection in the future.

The curbside organics collection is expected to begin May 1, 2024, to allow enough time to order and receive the organics carts. The start date for curbside recycling is not yet known as it is dependent on the completion of the Province’s extended producer responsibility program. “A Request for Proposal regarding contracted waste services was advertised late last year to determine if the City could save money,” said Kathy Lewin, general manager of municipal services.

“After reviewing the proposals, the City opted to enter into a contract with C&S Disposal Inc. due to their ability to provide additional curbside collection services — such as recycling and organics — at the same cost as the City’s rate for only the curbside waste collection service.”

The City personnel who operated the garbage trucks are being redeployed within the organization. This has been possible given recent vacancies due to retirement and the City is grateful to be able to redeploy these employees to continue serving Wetaskiwinites.
