Ride for Mom will stop in Millet May 11

Motorcycle event is dedicated to stopping family violence

If you love motorcycles and also want to help stop family violence in the region, there’s an event coming up May 11 that’s perfect for you.

The 3rd annual Ride for Mom: Supporting Women in Need will eventually be cruising into the Millet Agriplex with plenty of participants on that Saturday, noted spokesperson Kevin O’Connor.

“On Saturday May 11 2019 the Third Annual Ride For Mom is stopping in Millet at the Agriplex,” stated O’Connor in a press release.

“The Ride is a one motorcycle event to raise awareness of domestic violence and raise funds for domestic abuse shelters. Although you might think you are not affected by domestic violence, there is a chance you are. It affects all of us. You could have a family member, friend, co-worker, or even an acquaintance that is a silent victim. Help us give these victims a voice, and to stop domestic violence in its tracks.

“Last year the event attracted 200 riders and raised about $20,000 for Edmonton area domestic abuse shelters.”

After a breakfast buffet, the ride leaves Blackjacks truck stop on Sparrow Dr. in Leduc at 10:30 a.m. There will also be door prizes and a 50/50 draw.

Leduc’s Riseup Society is one of the sponsors of the ride, and organizers have stated before women in the Wetaskiwin and Millet areas who need help often go to this Leduc organization.

Registration will be at Blackjacksa from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. registration fee is $30.
