Saddleback re-elected as chief of Samson

Election was held on July 14

Vernon Saddleback will continue in his role as the chief for Samson Cree Nation (SCN) after winning a decisive victory at the polls on July 14.

Saddleback garnered 436 votes, with the next-closest candidate, Kurt Buffalo coming in with 305.

A total of 1,404 votes were cast, including all polls and virtual voting results.

The results for the other candidates are as follows:

Frank Buffalo, 186; Marvin Yellowbird, 132; Larron Northwest, 121; Bradley Omeasoo, 59; Terry Buffalo, 65; Melvin Northwest, 51; and Lester Nepoose, 46. Three ballots were rejected.

The election for the Samson council will be held July 28. Nominations close on July 21.

Any one who is self-isolating is prohibited from attending polling stations, however, they can register for virtual voting by contacting electoral officer Loretta Pete at 306-227-3373.

Ermineskin Cree Nation will be holding its elections in August.

Nominations for chief close on Aug. 5 with the election taking place on Aug. 12, while nominations for council close on Aug. 19 and the election going on Aug. 26.
