The Samson Cree Nation and Mixcor Aggregate Inc. are continuing a successful business partnership that began in June of 2012.
Mixcor Aggregates Inc. is a family owned and operated gravel supply company that has been operating in central Alberta for over 45 years.
Back in 2012, these two parties signed an agreement allowing Mixcor Aggregates Inc. to responsibly mine gravel from the Sandy Ridge Gravel Pit, land owned by the Samson Cree Nation.
On Aug. 14, 2017, Mixcor Aggregates Inc. presented a cheque to the Samson Cree Nation for $30,000.
The cheque is part of a Community Development Incentive payment for the band. The money will be used to support initiatives for Youth Development and Employment Generation.
Mixcor is proud to be part of this important endeavor.
Mixcor feels that these actions will help to support the Samson Cree Nations Mission Statement: “Samson Cree Nation is a Sovereign Nation that is dedicated to improving quality of life for all our People by maximizing our Human Resources and Respecting our Cree Language and Traditions of our Peoples.”
During the term of this agreement, the Band has also used gravel from the Sandy Ridge Pit in their community. Local roads and pedestrian pathways have been constructed with gravel from the pit.
During the mining and extraction process, Mixcor records shipments and pays the Samson Cree Nation a royalty for every tonne of gravel removed from the pit.
Exciting and important projects currently being supplied with gravel from the Sandy Ridge Pit are:
Highway 2 widening from 41st Ave SW to Highway 19
Edmonton International Airport Expansion Project
Yeoford Road reconstruction, southwest of Pigeon Lake
