Students Breath A Collective Sigh Of Relief Over New Weighting Of Diploma Exams

Pipestone Flyer

The Government of Alberta has recently announced that the weighting for High School diploma exams will change from a 50/50 weighting to a 30/70 weighting, where school-awarded grades will be worth 70 per cent.

The announcement is welcomed by an assortment of students, teachers, parents, administrators and school boards across the province. Consider it a long overdue change to testing done in core subjects such as math, science, language arts and social studies that placed half of the year’s mark upon a single test.

The change is to take effect for September of 2015 with the first diploma exams to be written in November of 2015.
