A window was smashed at Ponoka Shoppers Drug Mart in the early hours of Jan. 13, and a number of items were taken.
An employee was in the business when the window was broken by the male suspect and the employee called 911 at 6:36 a.m., according to RCMP.
RCMP members from Ponoka and Maskwacis RCMP detachments responded, and Police Dog Services and Alberta Traffic Services were quickly on site as well.
On subsequent investigation it was found that several items had been stolen and the suspect had gained entry.
The suspect was wearing a mask, so the surveillance footage is limited in what it can tell RCMP, according to Cpl. Mike Dillon of the Ponoka RCMP.
RCMP concluded that the suspect must have fled in a vehicle, as police dogs were unable to locate a track for the suspect at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and the RCMP ask that the public remain vigilant.
Lately, it seems these types of crimes are occurring in the early morning, especially in the downtown area when businesses are not yet open, says Cpl. Dillon.
If you’re out walking your dog or otherwise see something that doesn’t seem right, please notify the RCMP, he says.
