The Town of Millet’s January 12 regular Council meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Mayor Rob Lorenson.
- Millet Council is revising the original Open Air Fire Bylaw with a proposed number of changes. On December 8, 2010, the Open Air Fire Bylaw was brought forward to Council for the first and second readings. Councillor Wadsworth proposed a number of changes to the original document, that Council reviewed and agreed with. Councillor Wadsworth made a motion to accept the amendments to the Bylaw. - The Millet & District Lion’s Club requested a waiver of fees for the use of the Community Hall for a function to be held on April 30. Councillor Wadsworth made a motion for the approval of waiving the hall rental fees for the Lion’s Club.
Winter Street Maintenance Policy
The Town of Millet’s winter street maintenance entails four major functions:
- Snow Plowing
- Sidewalk Snow Clearning
- Ice Control
- Parking Lot clearing
Under discussion was the level of snow high enough to necessitate plowing. At present, “plowing is initiated after there is an average accumulation of snowfall of 5 cm or more,” the wording of which Council decided to change from ‘5 cm or more’ to ‘more than 5 cm‘. Councillor Tony Wadsworth motioned to have the wording officially changed. Streets and town-owned lots have snow maintenance priority. The Town of Millet does not remove snow, rather it is plowed to the sides (maintained).
- Persuant to Section 242(2) of the Municipal Government Act, Council may adopt an interim operating budget for part of the calendar year and the interim budget ceases to have any effect when the actual operating budget is adopted.
The interim budget allows for Administration to approve of ongoing operating expenses such as salaries and utilities.
Councillor Pat Garrett made a motion to accept the 2011 interim budget.
