Charles "Bub" Dowswell passed away peacefully, May 19, 2021 at age 96, following a week of palliative care in the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre. He cherished the many visits from friends and family, during his last week.
Bub was born on the Dowswell homestead, December 21, 1924. He achieved the required nine years of education at the one-room school known as Battle River. He married Una Olsen in 1945 and they had five children; Dale (Laura) Dowswell, Roy (Gabi) Dowswell, Arlene Jackson, Lori Dyberg, and Robyn (Gerry) Kaldenhoven. He loved to visit with the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bub was also predeceased by his son-in-law, Blair Dyberg.
As a lifelong farmer, Bub contributed to many community causes such as the Angus Ridge Community Hall, Rural Electrification, 4-H Clubs and the Wetaskiwin Seed Cleaning Plant Board. Curling was a diversion; the farm shop was a passion. There was always a welding and fabrication project on the go.
His wife, Una, predeceased him in 2008 but he remained alone on the farm and was proud to play an active role in seeding and harvest of the 126th Dowswell crop in 2019.
The family wishes to thank the many staff at the Wetaskiwin Season's Retirement Residence who helped in his transition to 'city life' during his final months. Also a heartfelt thanks to the nurses, doctors and caretaking staff of Unit 35 at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre.
Their care and compassion for Bub and their accommodation of his many visitors, made his final week very pleasant for all of us.
A private family interment will be held at a later date. Donations in Bub's memory can be made to Wetaskiwin Animal Shelter (Please note: cheques are made to the Wetaskiwin Animal Clinic and "Animal Shelter" on the memo line, and no tax receipts are issued, 4735-39 Avenue, Wetaskiwin, AB T9A 2J4).
