Donald Edward Goodkey was born at Pendryl, Alberta on June 30, 1934 and passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Centennial Geriatric Unit on August 23, 2021.
Don began his working career as a teenager in the sawmills west of Alder Flats. From there he moved on to road and oilfield construction for various companies in Alberta.
After his marriage in 1958, the family settled on their farm west of Winfield where they still reside. Don continued "working out" for several years along with his farming. His was a mixed farm, raising Black Angus cattle for many years before changing over to the buffalo for the last 25 years.
Don was an active and founding member of the Winfield Gun Club and the Winfield Light Horse Club.
Don leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 62 years, Judy; sons, Dean (Glenda), Donnie (Ellen); daughter, Crystal (Kevin); 6 grandchildren, Clancy (Jocelyne), Ethan &Cale (Mikala) Goodkey, Kaitlyn Hounsome, Chantelle and Josee (Cam) Guss, 5 great grandsons, Atticus, Bodhi, Callum & River Goodkey; Beau Bremner and the anticipated arrival of a great granddaughter and a great grandson this fall; aunt Shirley Long; brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Jack & Mildred Goodkey; sister, Marian Sundberg; great grandson, Theo; aunts, uncles, and cousins. There will be no formal funeral at his request.
In memory of Don, donations may be made to S.T.A.R.S (Alberta) an organization close to the hearts of our family, or the charity of your choice.
