December 18, 1929 - February 23, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Filan on February 23, 2021 at the age of 91. Ev was born and grew up in the Porto Bello/Pipestone area.
When she was 18, she moved to Ontario where she lived and worked for 7 years. She returned to Alberta, and in 1956 married Samuel Filan. Sam and Ev farmed and raised their children, Debbie and Rob, at Pipestone. Ev worked on the farm, had a large garden and loved to cook, bake, and entertain.
Although her life on the farm was very busy, she always had time to visit with friends and relatives who stopped by. She was involved in activities in the community such as the 4-H Garden Club and curling.
She was also very involved in the life of the church, teaching Sunday School and VBS, serving as secretary and treasurer, making quilts for various charities and participating in the church's ELW and other groups.
Ev was a very generous person, always willing to share her garden produce, baking and help. Ev loved her grandchildren and spent a lot of time with them. Because they lived so close to her, she saw them most days as they grew up. She played games with them and taught them many useful skills like cooking and gardening.
This past year she was able to watch the development of her first great grandchild and it brought her great joy. Although she had some mobility issues the last few years, she was able to remain in her home until a few days before her passing. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Debbie (Gene) Ziebarth and Robert Filan; grandchildren, Tamara, Ryan (Roan), Amanda, Jake (Marissa), Lexi (Cole); great granddaughter, Everly; daughter-in-law, Michelle; brother, Ken (Helen); sister, Gladys; brothers-in-law, Don (Joyce), George (Freda); as well as numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Sam; parents, Kristian and Karen Hansen; sister, Helen (Jack) Fandrick; sister-in-law, Rose (Rudy) Drinovz; brother-in-law, Ed (Audrey) Filan; and niece, Kristine Sherlock.
In memory of Evelyn, donations would be gratefully accepted by St Peter's Lutheran Church, Mulhurst Lutheran Camp, STARS, or a charity of your choice.
