February 3, 1928 - February 10, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Hilda Schmidt, of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, on February 10, 2022.
Mom was born on February 3, 1928 to Emil and Martha Sonnenberg, was raised and lived her whole life in the Falun and Wetaskiwin area. She enjoyed a very busy life filled with blessings and joys yet also sprinkled with some struggle. Mom tackled each moment with incredible strength and determination. Raising nine children and taking farm work in stride, she strove to be the best mother she could be. We, her children, were richly blessed to have her with us for so many years.
She leaves to mourn: Eileen (Perry) Rose, Eleanor (Gerrit) Snyders, Dennis (Pat) Schmidt, Douglas (Sharyn) Schmidt, Brenda (Clayton) Sept, Beverly (Barry) Forth, Marvin (Marcia) Schmidt, Rhonda (Darren) Bara, together with 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; brother Harvey (Anne) Sonnenberg; sisters-in-law Milda Schmidt, Marlene Schmidt, Shirley Sonnenberg and Kathryn Sonnenberg, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Erwin; son Randal; and grandson Trevor Forth; her parents, along with her brothers Herbert, Helmut, Herman, Henry, and Hardy Sonnenberg; and sisters Herta, Helen, Hester and Hedwig.
We will miss her dearly.
A funeral service for Hilda will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Wetaskiwin (5417 - 40 Avenue). Donations in her memory are gratefully accepted to the Alzheimer's Society.
