In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, Oma, great Oma and friend at the age of 98. Oma was lucky enough to be able to see many of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren along with receiving many phone calls from her loved ones prior to her passing in the Olds hospital with family by her side.
Mom passed away peacefully on Monday, October 31, 2022. She was born September 16,1924 in the Netherlands. She was a deeply loved wife, mother, Oma, Great Oma and Tante Ma.
Mom's life story was filled with many challenges and triumphs that she shared with her husband Martinus including a brutal war in occupied Holland, leaving their homeland to begin a new life in Canada in 1950 with 3 young children. Throughout it all she maintained a positive attitude mixed with humour and strong morals that she demonstrated to her 6 children as they settled in the Wetaskiwin area.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Martinus, Linda Dunbar, many brothers, sisters, brothers and sisters in law. She was quite proud of being the last "Hazeleger"
Mom is survived by her children: Herman (Judy) Schut; Hank (Clare) Schut; Marge (Lance) Nordin; Tony Schut; Dianne (Wayne) Piller; Susan (Bob) Tylke.
She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and her sister in law Stefie Schut.
Following her husband's death she lived independently until 94 years young and had just given up driving and biking, but she continued with a love of walking and soon became known to family as "The Energizer Bunny". Mom then lived in Peace Hills lodge before moving to Olds in 2021 and spent her final time in Seasons lodge in Olds.
She had an insatiable appetite for reading, history and world affairs. Her memory was second to none for dates of birthdays and historical trivia. MacLeans, Readers Digest, National Geographic were some of her favourite magazines and her thirst for knowledge knew no bounds.
Mom was a social butterfly. She often left knowing the salesperson, hairdresser or nurse/therapist entire life history and interests.
She will be missed dearly and we can all recount her humour, her fierce independence and her remarkable good health for 98 lovely years.
We love you Mootje so much....
Rest In Peace
Tot Ziens
