January 16, 1953 - April 20, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce that the Lord has called home Murray Otto Dewald of Wetaskiwin, AB on Wednesday April 20, 2022 at the age of 69. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 47 years, Rene; their three children, Stephan (Christie), Scott (Shannon), Jason (Katelyn); as well as his six grandchildren that he loved very much, Ashley, Morgan, Jaedyn, Blakely, Taylor and Felix; his siblings, Fran (Larry), Fern, and Sandra; and his sister-in-law, Lynda; as well as many other friends and relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, Otto and Hilda Dewald.
Murray is leaving behind his best friend and love of his life Rene, who will always have the memories of their family time, trips and most of all spending time together at home where they loved to be the most.
He spent countless hours with his grandchildren sharing with them his passion for life, farming, animals, the outdoors and swimming.
His love for farming was one of his greatest passions. His genuine love for the land and the lifestyle that it allowed gave him great joy and fulfilment. It allowed him to spend time working alongside his sons and grandchildren as a caretaker of God's creation.
Murray loved sports and was involved from an early age playing baseball, curling, golfing and coaching his sons in hockey. He will be remembered as "The Colonel" with the Wetaskiwin Implements Red Devils slo-pitch team.
Murray was a proud member of the community, involved in many boards and committees, always willing to share his thoughts and opinions on politics, farming and life in general.
A service to honour Murray was held at the Zion Lutheran Church on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.
In memory of Murray, donations may be made to the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation or the Wetaskiwin Health Foundation - Palliative Care Unit.
