In Loving Memory ~
Vivian was born on September 5, 1928, in the country home of her parents, Lars and Bella Hyland, near Warburg, Alberta. Delivered by her father, Vivian was the youngest of six children. She attended school until Grade 9, after which she worked and lived at the general store in Warburg. In those days, the store was a vital hub for the community, offering everything from groceries to general goods. Later, Vivian moved in with her sister Lenora and her husband, Walter Dunlop, where she worked at the general store in New Norway. Vivian's life took a new direction when she and Bert attended Bible College in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. It was there that Bert proposed to her, and they were married on October 3, 1951. After their wedding, Bert brought Vivian to his family's farm, and together they purchased an adjacent quarter section to raise their family near Wetaskiwin. Both were deeply involved in their community and church activities, fostering lifelong connections and friendships. In 1976, Vivian took on the role of cook at the Peace Hills Foundation Seniors Home, where she worked for 10 years. She also spent six summers cooking at the Covenant Bay Bible Camp, where she built cherished memories with many. In 1990, Vivian and Bert moved from the farm to Wetaskiwin, where she resided until her passing. Throughout her life, Vivian had a deep love for family, travel, and creativity. She was known for her love of shopping, cooking, and baking - often winning first-place ribbons at the fair for her baked goods. Her passion for crafts ranged from knitting for her grandchildren to painting ceramics, bringing joy to all who received her handmade gifts. Vivian and Bert travelled extensively, visiting every Canadian province except Newfoundland, over 30 American states, and five continents. They also enjoyed six cruises, with their ultimate journey being an unforgettable family trip to Alaska in 2010, where they were joined by their children and spouses for a wonderful adventure.
Vivian passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family. She will be forever cherished in their hearts. Vivian was predeceased by her husband Bert in 2021 and her five siblings, Lionel, Marvin, Eleanor, Lenora, and Milton. Vivian was a devoted and loving mother to their four children: Delwyn (Carmen), Valerie (Garry), Byron (Judy), and Nadene (Jeff). Her ten grandchildren, who adored and loved her deeply, include: Tony (Elisha), Tyler (Denise), Michael (Suzy), Elyse (Connor), Mathew (Katelyn), Dylan (Sophia), Justene (KC), Joel, Madison, and Emily. Vivian's legacy lives on in her 15 great-grandchildren: Austin, Jayde, Bryce, Brodie, Ellie, Harper, Ruthie, Everly, Oaklynn, Kensington, Jozie, Brynn, Lainey, Beau, and Peyton.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Sagebrush Seniors Home, as well as Dr. de Wet and Dr. Schlenther, for their exceptional care and kindness during Vivian and Bert's final years.
A celebration of Vivian's life will take place on her birthday, at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 5th, at Malmo Covenant Church, with Pastor Randall Friesen officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Centre at the U of A (ualberta.ca) in memory of Vivian Weaver.
Vivian's love, warmth, and joy will be missed by all who knew her.
