William (Bill) sadly passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2019. He was a loved son of Anna and Alan Evenson and brother to Leslie, Graham and Eric.
Bill was a fiercely independent individual who lived life on his own terms and enjoyed the natural beauty of the Pigeon Lake and Battle Lake areas of Alberta for most of his life.
Born and raised in Edmonton, spending summers at Pigeon Lake, Bill lived frugally and dedicated his time to his own
interests and pursuits. Rather than commit to a career or financial gain Bill attained his pleasure from puttering about, socializing with friends and neighbors, and planning strange and peculiar projects. For a long period, he was a fixture on Grandview Beach, first summering as a child and teen at his parent's cottage, and later running the Crystal Springs Store for a brief period. Bill was quick to engage in conversation and had advice on almostevery subject for those he associated with.
Although he was solitary in nature and never married, Bill was kind and generous to a fault. He took great pleasure in helping friends out wherever he could and offering any assistance at his disposal to anyone who needed it.
His interests included many fields, but especially fishing, astronomy and gemology. He would often surprise you by sitting down at a piano or guitar and easily producing a recognizable tune, and would pull out hidden skills like sailing a dingy or small engine repair routinely.
Bill lived a full life touching on an immense range of experiences from flying small aircraft to cultivating Saskatoon berries. He was a great cook when called upon and willing. Bill could also frame a photograph with the eye of a Master. Widely read, he could sometimes baffle a person with his depth of knowledge.
Quiet and unassuming, Bill never asked for much but was always prepared to give. Always positive, supportive and encouraging to those who knew him, Bill will be fondly thought of and sadly missed by those who knew him well, to whom he contributed much.
A quiet gathering of friends to celebrate Bill's life took place at Pigeon Lake on Saturday, July 6, 2019.
