On Starting A Foundation

The experience of stepping out and starting a foundation has taught me, among other things, the importance of words of encouragement. Without them, I would have doubted my ability to see it through.

We all have our doubts and fears, and quite often, we are the only person standing in our way when it comes to stepping out and doing something different. The way we think, our patterns of thought, can lead us to do great things or it can hold us back. I want to encourage others to dream big without holding back. Then start putting things in place; write it down, share it with like-minded people, and believe that it is possible to make a change. Having the support of family, friends, or other loved ones is important, but if you can find the courage yourself, you will be closer to accomplishing your goal.

I found ‘words of encouragement’ by reading inspirational quotes, and by listening to people who have done remarkable things, and I was blessed to have others in my life that believed in my vision as well.

I have learnt that you don’t have to be ‘Great’ to do great things; you don’t have to have the best education, or the highest level of achievement to make in difference in someone’s life. You don’t need to have money in order to give, and you don’t have to come from the best family, or have lived the best life, in order to show love and kindness to those who need it. An act of kindness or a positive word has the effect of changing anyone’s day, and it is contagious.

I have noticed that many people wish for things to be better, hope for change, and wait for those in authority to do something. What we have to realize is that we all have a voice, and we are capable of so much more that we give ourselves credit for. If we keep waiting, the changes we hope to see may never come.

When we look beyond our doubts, our fears, insecurities, worries, and thoughts of what others may think, we become free. We see that the things that matter on the road to pursuing our dreams, are the desire to do it, passion to see it through, and finding support. Support for your vision can come from a book, hearing a story, or even from having just one person who believes in you.

This is what the foundation is about. It’s about sending out a positive message and giving encouragement and motivation to those who need it. Believing in them and letting them know that you can make a difference.
