Dear editor,
As a resident who deeply cares about our community, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what has been, in many ways, a great spring. Many of us have been working hard to prepare for the summer — cleaning up, planting, and trying to make our spaces more welcoming.
However, I’ve noticed that areas such as Jubilee Park remain unweeded, and the Running Brook at By the Lake Park has not yet been addressed. These are public spaces that reflect the pride and values of our city, and their current state is disappointing.
Over the years, it seems there has been a gradual decline in the visible pride the city takes in maintaining these important spaces. This not only affects our own quality of life but also the impression we give to visitors. Clean, beautiful parks and public areas are essential to making Wetaskiwin attractive and welcoming.
I find myself asking: is this due to a lack of initiative from city administration, or perhaps a lingering complacency from previous councils? Or is this something that the current council has not yet fully addressed?
Whatever the case may be, I urge you to consider how even small improvements can make a big difference in how our city is perceived and experienced.
David Jaburek,
Wetaskiwin
