While Movember and its hairlarious facial fuzz may be winding down, the men’s health issues that inspire this fundraising event remain year round. This light hearted approach is used to bring attention to prostate and testicular cancer as well as mental health concerns.
One of the mental health issues facing emergency responders is PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) a very real and serious disorder. In October 2013 alone The Millet Fire Department were called out to 2 fatality multi vehicle crashes. It’s difficult to imagine how our volunteers wouldn’t be affected by the stress of responding to these situations.
The MFD is also raising funds for its Community Relations Team with the sale of the 2014 Boys of MFD Calendar and other merchandise. The money raised will be used to promote community awareness as well as providing morale and camaraderie boosting events for the firefighters. The MFD wants the community to know that they do more than just respond to accidents and fires. They want to help the community as much as they can, answering questions about fire safety, giving tours of the fire hall , trucks and equipment and even giving demonstrations.
