AShoro update: My time at home

Hello everyone, I would like to share with you a little about what I was able to do during my stay in Wetaskiwin. Last time, I had mentioned that I wanted to do a couple of things such as catching up with friends and family, meeting my new niece, and also drinking a Tim Horton’s double double coffee. I am very happy to report that I was able to do everything that I wanted to do!

On my first day back home, my older sister and my younger brother picked me up at the airport. Upon meeting up with them, I teared up a little because I was so happy to see them after a year. My parents were under the impression that I was going to be home on the 31st of August, so imagine their surprise when I randomly showed up one day early. My mom was so overjoyed that she almost tackled me to the ground as she ran towards me to give me a hug. That was when I truly felt that I was home, it was truly a happy moment.

On my second day, my siblings and friend took me to the golf course to play a round at the driving range. I was doubtful at first because I am not very good at golfing, but I am glad I went. I had a very fun time with everyone. After the golfing session, everyone gathered over to Tim Horton’s and I was finally able to have a drink of the coffee that I have been craving for an entire year. It tasted even better than what I remembered.

Another exciting part of the trip was finally meeting my niece, Gigi, for the first time. I was beyond happy to finally be able to hold her. She was as perfect as I had imagined. It was a bonus that she did not cry when her mom put her in my hands. That is a moment that I will cherish forever. It was so moving to finally be able to hold Gigi after waiting for months.

My next few days were spent catching up with friends, telling each other what the past year has been like. It was as if I had never left. Many things have changed, but many have also stayed the same. I was glad that being away for a year did not make me feel alienated from those who I love most. This trip made me realize that although there is a huge distance between me and my loved ones, nothing will ever break the bond that we have. That is all I have to share for now. Thank you for reading!
