Decked out in running gear and Terry Fox T-shirts, participants, young and old, gathered at By-the-Lake Park on Sept. 17 for Wetaskiwin’s Terry Fox Run.
Last year, Wetaskiwin’s run raised $6,700, according to organizer Debbie Hawken.
The money raised this year far surpassed all goals, reaching over $10,700 to support cancer research.
Individuals had the option of walking, running or biking their desired distance in support.
Once finished, hungry fundraisers enjoyed a hot dog lunch donated for the event.
Each year, the run is hosted on the third Sunday in September, the month Terry Fox chose when he had to stop his marathon across the country.
Fox ran for 143 days and 5,373 kilometres to raise money for cancer research.
Now, Canadians nationwide lace up their running shoes in support of Fox’s mission.
