When essential workers on the frontlines of the pandemic are brought up, most immediately think of nurses, doctors, and grocery store employees. However, essential workers such as truckers are also vastly impacted by COVID-19.

Transporting essential goods, the majority of their time is spent on the road. During this time truckers rely heavily on food accommodations along their route. However, with restaurants being closed for in-dining options, their format has been switched to drive-through only, curbside pickup, or delivery options.

However, drive-through options are not a viable choice for truck drivers, whose vehicles will not fit through the drive-through space and walk through options are not allowed.

Wetaskiwin’s Tim Hortons has considered the needs of the truck driver community and has set up a system to ensure that truck driver customers are able to access what they need.

A sign at the North Wetaskiwin Tim Hortons’ location offers assistance to any truck drivers and asks them to ring the doorbell to receive assistance from a Tim Hortons’ team member.

The sign says, “please use the doorbell or call 780-352-8484 and a team member will be happy to help you. We appreciate all that you do in these challenging times!”

The sign also states that guests who are not truck drivers must use the drive-through as the they will not be granted access to the dining room.
