A new market in the City of Wetaskiwin is trying to bring the community together.

Georgina Schmaltz – the organizer of the Night Market, invites local vendors to bring items in front of potential customers.

“We have backing, jewelry, essential oils and perfumes as well as indigenous jewelry and handcrafted items,” Schmaltz said.

Visitors can also buy small treats and other available food items during the market.

Vendors can rent a table at the market for $10.

Those interested in getting a table at the market can also make a donation to the food bank.

But food isn’t the main driving force for the visitors, says Schmaltz. It’s the environment where visitors can share their pains or happy moments with each other.

“This place is really geared toward community. We have seniors, First Nations people that come here, not just for food, but for having some good conversation,” Schmaltz said.

“Everybody that walks in the door is important to us.”

The market happens once a week, every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at 6501 47 Street, just south of the Wetaskiwin Hospital.

Visitors can also participate in a raffle if they donate to the food bank.
