A suspect in a stolen truck led police on a chase on Saturday, April 6, starting at the Bear Hills Truck Stop off of Highway 2 south of Wetaskiwin, and ending outside of Airdrie.

At 6:10 p.m., the Wetaskiwin RCMP spotted the stolen GMC one ton at the truck stop. Responding officers requested assistance from the Alberta Real Time Operations Centre (RTOC) and Police Dog Services to attempt to stop the vehicle using a certain intervention technique.

A tire deflation device was deployed but the suspect rammed past the police vehicle, disabling it. The driver continued to flee, driving southbound on Highway 2.

Central Alberta RCMP resources were then engaged to covertly monitor the vehicle.

Once south of Red Deer, Calgary’s police helicopter, HAWK One, kept the vehicle in view.

Police finally apprehended the suspect at the 40 Avenue overpass south of Airdrie, using a second tire deflation device to successfully stop the vehicle.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Those with any information regarding the flight from police are asked to contact the Wetaskiwin RCMP at 780‐312‐7200.
