Rather than change the hours of the City of Wetaskiwin landfill this year council has tabled the matter until March 2019.

During their Feb. 26 meeting councillors debated changing the landfill hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., year-round.

However, as the matter was brought back before council at its March 12 meeting, Coun. Wayne Neilson felt he would not be ready to make a decision until he had more information on how council’s decision would impact levels of service the landfill could provide.

Neilson added he wanted administration to provide council with usage levels the landfill sees, both seasonally and hourly.

“If we’re talking about levels of service … Maybe we should have more information,” said Neilson. “I would like to see that reflected in the two seasons of operation.”

Sue Howard, director of engineering and development, says the issue with Neilson’s request is that the landfill does not have a lot of the tracking data he wanted. In order to peruse usage numbers council will have to wait out the two seasons.
