The County of Wetaskiwin has allocated $10,000 to help support Canada 150 celebrations across the municipality.

Council made its decision during its June 20 meeting, and funds were approved from the Family and Community Support Services grant program.

Stipulations attached to the funds include: the money must go to a not-for-profit community organization, the allocation of the Canada 150 grant is based on a 50 per cent contribution from the organization, and the county will match with 5- per cent up to a total project cost of $3,000.

During council’s May 15 meeting councillors directed administration to reach out to groups in the area and come back to council with a report of one-time donation opportunities and proposed budgets for the projects.

“The response was minimal,” said Geoff Lynch, director of leisure and community services.

“The ones who did respond could not give a dollar value,” he added.
