Barry Norman Dunn of Buck Lake, Alberta, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on October 30, 2023, holding the hands of his children and surrounded by love. Barry leaves to mourn his passing, his partner Katherine Blakely, daughter Tawnya (Ted)Dooper, son Tyler (Veronica), His grandsons Clayton (Lacey) Evan, Cole and his granddaughter Mackenzie. Kathy's children Tom Blakely (Hayley) and Jennifer Steel, and his step-grandchildren Sawyer, Walker, Thea, and Dawson. His sister-in-law Marilyn Dunn, his siblings, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents, his parents; Norman and Margaret Dunn and his brother Jim. Born in Edmonton on March 8, 1947, and raised on the family farm near Pendryl, AB, He graduated high school in Winfield and moved to Edmonton where he worked on the ramp at Air Canada. He met and married Ellen Dragland in 1970 and moved to Leduc to raise their two children. Barry worked as a carpet cleaner and then managed a Fibreclean franchise in Edmonton. He was promoted to General Manager of the Fibreclean Head office and the family moved to Calgary in 1989. After 20 years of work, love, camping and travel, Barry and Ellen then separated. Barry briefly moved to Victoria B.C., but his roots were here in Alberta, and he returned home to Buck Lake. He met his loving partner Kathy, and they built a beautiful life of camping, travelling, and gardening together. Barry loved storytelling and was always eager to share his wisdom, stories, and guidance with his family. He was musical and enjoyed playing the guitar and piano. He was artistic and enjoyed woodworking, gardening and painting. Barry was very community minded. He loved serving on the Buck Lake Alder Flats Fire Department for over 21 years and retired as Deputy Chief in 2022. He served as a councillor for the County of Wetaskiwin for 12 years. He sat on many local boards and spent many volunteer hours with his neighbours to make our community a wonderful place to live. The family is hosting an open house in celebration of Barry's Life on Saturday, November 18th, 2023, at the Buck Lake Hall from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Buck Lake Alder Flats Fire Department or the Kidney Foundation of Canada. The family would like to extend a huge thank you to family and friends for their love and support these last few months. We would also especially like to thank the nurses and staff on the Nephrology ward at the University of Alberta Hospital.
