When you combine good food and good music, you have the delightful kind of evening that Millet’s Concert in the Country held for its 15th annual fall Pig Roast. The succulent pork from a whole roasted pig with all the trimmings makes a delicious meal.
Brian Dumont, from Camrose, started off the concert with a mix of Country Gospel favourites and some less familiar songs, as well as some sharing of life and experience. “The Stone,” first recorded by John Barry, had some memorable couplets such as, “If you can only find the will, you can find the way,” and, “Let dreams take wing—they’ll be strong as the stone from David’s sling.” He has a beautiful voice. It was also a joy to watch a little girl enjoying the music to the full as she quietly danced to it beside a wall.
The second half of the concert featured the Lost and Found quartet from Calgary. Any gains they receive when they travel and sing go toward the support of the House of Grace in Russia, a retreat centre to which Russian and Crimean pastors can go for rest, relaxation and renewal. Their words were a reminder of how good it is to be a part of the family of God. Their songs showed once again how gospel music combines beautiful music with wise words of truth, comfort, faith and joy. They concluded a most enjoyable evening.
The next Concert in the Country event will be the summer Millet Gospel Concert on August 9th and 10th. It is a very well planned, well organized, and well attended concert with an interesting variety of performers. We owe a debt of gratitude to the dedicated people who work so hard behind the scenes to put these concerts on. Thank you.
